Hi! This is Raghu and I am the founder of CloudStaq. I have more than a decade of experience in Cloud Technologies (specifically AWS) and overall 16 years of experience in the field of Technology. I was an ex AWS Big Data Solution Architect. As a Big Data Solution Architect, I was extensively involved in helping large Startups, Enterprises and ISVs in India scale their Big Data workloads on the AWS Platform. Some of my deep engagements with customers include helping India’s large Travel platform build their Data Lake on AWS, helping India’s second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer run their telematics platform on AWS and optimizing/scaling the Analytics platform of a leading Retail Analytics ISV.
During my tenure I was also privileged to be representing AWS in its large format public events (such as speaking at summits) and conducting public webinars to educate customers.
Prior to AWS, I co-founded cmpute.io (also known as 47Line Technologies, acquired by Cisco) that analyses cloud deployments and recommends cost optimization strategies. Earlier, I was part of the founding team at 8KMiles Software Services, where I was instrumental in scaling the consulting business to AWS Premier Status. I gained tremendous amount of AWS experience during my tenure at 8KMiles.
Things that I Ponder
- Apparently, the difference in DNA between a human and a Chimpanzee is about 5%. With that difference, we have become a dominant species on this planet. And yet, a Chimpanzee wouldn’t understand if you tell him “Meet me at the Cafe at 5PM”. So, what would a species that has just 5% more DNA than us, humans, would be capable of?
- There have been so many times where I was so immersed in music or on a conversation while driving. It is when I reach my destination, I realize that I had driven to the destination without any conscious thinking. How does our brain do these so beautifully? What does consciousness even mean? Do other animals have consciousness like we do?
- Space. The vastness. The void. Are we alone in this universe? Or like how we are for ants (they may not even know that we exist and certainly cannot imagine the 3 dimensional world that we take for granted), could we be like ants for an evolved civilization?
If you are as curious as me in these areas, I recommend the following:
- The Brain – a book by David Eagleman
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari (I have read this book twice already!)
- The Power Of Habit – a book by Charles Duhigg that examines how our brain forms habits
- Hidden Brain – a wonderful podcast on the workings of our brain
- Star Talk – a podcast by Niel De Grasse Tyson
